Camp Programs Update

Hello Mishewah Campers,

Since 1972, we have seen again and again how camp changes lives.  We know that Mishewah holds a special place in the hearts of many as a “home away from home.”

Most of you have likely heard the announcement from the government of Ontario that overnight camps in the province will not be running this summer.  In keeping with this mandate, it is with heavy hearts that we wish to inform you that our kids and youth camp programs, which include Scamps & Champs, Jr. Teen, Sr. Teen, and our partner ministry Pinaaz-i Zibi Maamawi, have been cancelled for 2020.  With the restrictions on gathering sizes remaining in place for the foreseeable future, we have also made the decision to cancel all weeks of Mishewah Family Camp for this summer.

While the idea of not being able to be together at camp is sad, we know that we are living in unprecedented times, and since the safety of our campers and staff is of the utmost importance to us, we support the difficult decision that our government has made.  We know that camp will be deeply missed this year, and we are planning for next summer and looking forward to seeing each of you at Mishewah in 2021.

BUT, just because we can’t be physically together at camp, doesn’t mean we can’t stay connected.  Even though we won’t be seeing each other face-to-face this year, we are already hard at work putting together creative and fun new ways to be part of our campers’ lives this summer.  We know it won’t be the same as being together in person, but connection is more important than ever in the world we are living in today.

As far as camping at Mishewah goes, we are hoping that if further restrictions are lifted, we will be able to open for families to come enjoy spending time at Mishewah this summer.  We will continue to communicate as the situation evolves in the coming weeks and months.  Specific information for seasonal campers should have been received via email this morning.

Stay tuned for more information coming soon, on plans for this summer, ways you can help, and options for how to proceed with your 2020 camp registration.

  1. I’m sure most or all of the spring work projects and teams were cancelled along with our (HMC) team plans to come up in May. If during the summer there is need for help maintaining the camp for a 2 or 3 days I would be more then willing to come up, bring my own accommodations and food, and work away at anything that needs repairs or cutting / trimming while abiding by any distancing measures.

    1. Hey Mark! Thanks for the offer, we will definitely let you know if there are ways you can help this summer. As restrictions are lifted, we are hoping we can have some volunteers come help with projects and maintenance, but for now, we are only able to open for our seasonal site campers.

  2. I know camp seasonal campers have been able to go to their trailers.
Any word on booking a site for a couple of weeks this summer?

    1. Yes! We are excited to be able to offer camping starting on July 1st! More info will be going out on the website, and via email and social media later today.
